Samsung implemented a full 5-day RTO policy in July 2025 for a specific group within its US semiconductor business, reversing its previous 'FlexWork' policy that allowed employees to work from home up to 2 days per week. The company is rolling out a compliance tool for managers to track employee attendance and guard against 'lunch/coffee badging' (employees badging in briefly then leaving). In internal emails, Samsung's HR team claimed the policy has led to 'more smiling faces in the hallways' and increased cafeteria usage, while acknowledging 'room to improve adherence to our policy.' The tracking tool provides managers with visibility into number of days and time-in-building metrics for each team member.
