Office Requirement
Policy Notes
The policy will be rolled out in phases, beginning with Seattle-area employees (Puget Sound region) who reside within 50 miles of a Microsoft office. Employees can request exceptions to the policy, with a deadline for such requests around mid-September 2025. Failure to comply with the policy could affect performance reviews and career advancement. Certain roles, such as account managers and consultants, may be exempt due to the nature of their work requiring flexibility. The policy transition is from Microsoft's previous flexible work model (allowing most employees to work remotely up to half the time without requiring approval) to the new mandatory 3-day RTO requirement, justified for enhancing in-person collaboration, particularly for innovation in the AI era.
